This morning, Kabwe District convened a high-level Epidemic Preparedness and Planning Meeting at the Kabwe Municipal Council Chamber, Civic Centre.

Graced by The District Commissioner Mr. Lennox  Shimwambwa, the meeting brought together key stakeholders including:
District Environmental Health Practitioners,
District Education Board Secretary,District Health Office,Lukanga Water and Sanitation Company,Zambia Red Cross,Zambia Railways and other critical partners.

The District Commissioner raised serious concerns about poor sanitation in parts of the district, which creates breeding grounds for cholera and other waterborne diseases. He urged stakeholders to leverage the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to:
✅ Upgrade sanitation infrastructure
✅ Construct ablution blocks
✅ Install water reticulation systems in public areas
✅ Procure garbage collection equipment

The District Surveillance Officer reported that a 26-year-old male from Magandanyama recently tested positive for cholera but was successfully treated and discharged on 8th November 2025 after full recovery.

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Local Authority and partners, has rolled out targeted interventions to prevent further spread and ensure rapid response if new cases emerge.This also included the formation of a Cholera Prevention Task Force,a deliberate measure to enhance disease prevention programs with the support of various stakeholders in the district.

The general public is hereby advised to:
-Wash hands with soap after using the toilet or changing diapers

-Drink only boiled or chlorinated water
-Dispose of waste properly

-Avoid street-vended foods
